the quest for Euro Supremo begins

Will Spain and Rayment again be victorious?
Mates predictions for Round 1 Group Games as well as Incentive Awards (see table below) for the Finalists and Worst Team have been locked in. For the Finalist Award, I resorted to cutting and pasting Germany v Netherlands Final and Spain v Netherlands. If either one of these predictions comes to fruition, Mates will be paid in cents, such was the popularity of either of these outcomes. Spain v Russia seems left of field, England beating Germany is a calculation based on hope and hence is not a calculation, and Italy pulling one over the Spanish is almost laughable. Go on laugh. Welcome to Football4Mates.

So how many players do we have, and what's the calibre of the competition? I must admit that we have the strongest group of players to date, with some serious ambitious individuals eyeing the prize of Euro Supremo. For this tournament we have former Supremos, the aka Sisyphus’ of the competition, and some fresh faces that could either bask themselves in glory, or find themselves  scraping their shattered reputation off the floor. What can work against many of you will be dedicating the time to watch games with scrupulous precision, rely on other sources, or fall head over heals in the common human flaw called national or ethnic pride.

In Greek mythology Sisyphus was a king punished by
being compelled to roll an immense boulder up a hill,
only to watch it roll back down, and to repeat this action forever.
Personally, my favourite that will shine over the rest, and do a Spain by adding the Euro Supremo title to his 2010 World Cup Football Supremo title is Rayment. At this moment, Rayment's advantage is his ability to watch the matches during the civilised hours of European time, is emotionless in his predictions, and does not rely on any ‘experts’. Hence, time, composure, and self-assurance are the three elements to achieve Supremo success. I hope that this wrap will not only put the spotlight on our Supremo but add pressure on his judgement. To date, no Supremo has followed up on their success, or won the title more than once.

My predictions for this evening's matches are Poland 1  Greece 2, Russia 2  Czech 1.

May the best Mate rein Euro Supremo.
