The ghost of the Maracanazo has now been laid to rest, but not in the way Brazil would have liked. After the 1950 World Cup Final Brazil's white shirts with blue collars that were worn in the final game were, in the wake of the defeat, changed, abolished from the memory of nearly all football fans, and the famous design of yellow shirt with green trim, blue shorts and white socks was born. Those players never played for the country again. Brazil now face a memory worse that 1950 as their reputation has almost been completely destroyed.
An update of the table will go up later this afternoon, but it's fare to say that no Mate would have predicted this scoreline today.
